Offers and winning cars

Raising, keeping and withdrawing an offer

An offer can go up and its pickup time can move earlier. It lasts a week, can be kept for another week, and can be withdrawn.

Everything you can do with an offer is in the offer box on the car’s page. If your card is not on file, the box asks you to add one instead, and the only thing left in it is Withdraw my offer, if you already have an offer.

Raising

Press +$25, +$50 or +$100, or type a new amount, then press Raise. A new offer has to be higher than the one you have, because while an offer stands it can go up but never down. The seller sees the new amount straight away. If it puts you on top and the seller agreed to texts, we text them about it, though not more than once every two hours. At night, from 9 PM to 8 AM where the car is, that text waits until after 8 AM and then names the best offer at that time, if the car is still for sale. A raise also starts your offer’s week again.

Offering an earlier pickup

Under Earliest you can pick it up, which lists your open pickup times, choose an earlier time and press the Move my pickup button. If you are raising at the same time, Raise sends both. While your offer stands, its pickup time can move earlier but you can’t move it later, because the time is part of what put you in Speed Run. The times on the list are on the clock where the car is. If your pickup time is almost over, with less than an hour of it left, and the seller has not picked an offer, we move your offer to your first open time after the notice you gave, from then. The seller can book your time or a later time you have open, never an earlier one.

Keeping an offer

Each offer stays on the seller’s page for a week after you make, raise or keep it, unless the listing closes first. In its last two days, the car’s page shows a Keep my offer button, which sends the same amount again and gives it another week, though never past the end of the listing. We also send you an alert a day before an offer runs out, unless the listing is closing by then anyway.

Withdrawing

Withdraw my offer, at the bottom of the box, takes your offer off the seller’s page. You can only withdraw while the car is still taking offers, not after the seller has chosen. If you change your mind, you can make a new offer on the car at any amount, with any pickup time on the list.
