What you need to sell a junk car in Tennessee

Tennessee plates follow you, not the car. Your county clerk can move them to another vehicle for a $1 fee.
If the plate leaves with the car, you can cancel it with the Tennessee Department of Revenue's plate cancellation form, sent by email.
The buyer needs your title properly signed over, plus an odometer disclosure statement if one applies, to title the car.
Lost your title? Your county clerk can issue a duplicate in person or by mail for $14, plus any county fees.
Federal law: if your car is a 2011 or newer, write the mileage on the title when you sign it. A 2010 or older car is exempt.
