What you need to sell a junk car in Florida
- PlatesYou take them off

- Your plates stay with you, not the car, so take them off before the truck leaves.
- Florida titles do not need a notary. Complete the Transfer of Title by Seller section in full, with your printed name and signature.
- Florida law says to file a Notice of Sale, form HSMV 82050, within 30 days of the sale.
- Lost a paper title? Apply for a duplicate with form HSMV 82101 at a motor vehicle service center before you sell.
- No title? A car at least 10 model years old and worth under $1,000 can go to a licensed salvage dealer or metals recycler on a derelict vehicle form.
- Federal law: if your car is a 2011 or newer, write the mileage on the title when you sign it. A 2010 or older car is exempt.
