What you need to sell a junk car in Arkansas
- Reporting the saleOptional
- If you want to move your plate to your next vehicle, the Arkansas DFA asks for your current registration certificate.
- Print the buyer's name on the back of the title. Then you and the buyer each sign and print your names.
- Telling the Arkansas DFA you sold the car is optional. You can mail or hand in its Notice of Transfer of Ownership form.
- Lost your title? A replacement costs $10 at any Arkansas state revenue office.
- If the car is at least 25 years old and has no title, a bill of sale can stand in for the title when it is sold for scrap.
- Federal law: if your car is a 2011 or newer, write the mileage on the title when you sign it. A 2010 or older car is exempt.
Checked October 2026 against the official sources below. Rules change, so if anything here does not match your situation, the Arkansas DFA has the final word.
