How selling a junk car in Cleveland works

  1. Describe the car online

Fill in a short form with the year, make and model, whether it runs, the title and when you need it gone. Add photos, the mileage and the VIN if you can, because buyers who can see the car offer a price they can stand by. There is no phone call to make and nobody to wait on hold for.

  2. Let the buyers battle

Buyers around Cleveland who take cars from your ZIP send offers to your own offers page, each with the earliest time they can pick up. Your page shows the three who can come soonest beside the three who will pay the most, each offer shows the buyer's name and town, and you can message any of them through our site.

  3. Pick your winner and get paid

Choose the offer that suits you, whether that is the most cash, the soonest pickup or one near the top of both, and book that buyer's time or a later one they have open. The buyer tows the car for free and pays you the full amount when they collect it.

Scrap and Tow

4.6 Cleveland

Most of the praise for this northeast Cleveland outfit near Euclid is several years old. Back then, sellers said the office set a pickup window, the driver came inside it, and the cash matched the phone quote on old vans and trucks. Recent reviews are thin and a couple complain about unanswered calls, so the record is strong but dated.

Mc Mahan's Wrecking

4.3 Cleveland

A family-run wrecking yard, repair shop and scrap scale on Cleveland's west side that has been around for decades. Sellers have junked vans and cars with blown engines here, and it also picks up cars sold through online buying services. Reviews are mixed, though, and one recent seller felt the price was well under other offers.

A1-B's Towing LLC And Junk Cars

4.9 Cleveland

Quick highway and driveway tows make up most of the praise for this company on Cleveland's west side near Brook Park. A few sellers used it to junk a car after other buyers gave them low offers and runaround, and they said this one was fair and on time. There are far fewer car sales in the reviews than tows.

Joe's Auto Wrecking

4.0 North Ridgeville

A North Ridgeville junkyard in Lorain County that sells parts and buys scrap cars. One seller with a totaled car agreed on a price, had it picked up the next day and was paid by check. Others liked the quick quote, though an older review said its offer was the lowest around, so it pays to compare.

Smithsons Towing

5.0 Cleveland

Mostly a tow company, and most of what people write about is breakdowns and flat tires on I-90 and the west side. A handful of sellers used it to junk a car, including an old Ford SUV pulled out of a garage, and one said it paid far more than the other scrap offers. Expect a fast truck more than a yard.

Collinwood Truck & Auto Wrecking

4.4 Cleveland

Known on St. Clair Avenue for cheap parts and tires, this Collinwood yard also hauls off cars and trucks. Recent sellers cleared out two trucks that were taking up space, sold a pickup at a fair price, and scrapped a big boom truck on short notice. Older reviews grumble about phones going unanswered, but the last year reads well.

Reed's Salvage Corporation

4.3 Grafton

A big, old-school scrap and parts yard in Grafton, out in Lorain County. People have junked a box truck and a run of old work trucks here, and one seller had the check mailed so they could stay at work. It feels like a drop-off scrap yard, with some gripes about scale weights and short tempers on the phone.

Above Average Auto Removal LLC

4.9 Cleveland

Cash at the curb, often the same day, is what most sellers on Cleveland's east side got here. Past sellers include a family whose minivan sat unused for a year and an estate clearing out a car in probate. One recent seller waited all day for a truck that never came, which is rare against the many smooth pickups.

ASAP Auto Removal

4.8 Brunswick

Speed is the main story with this buyer south of Cleveland near Brunswick. Sellers describe a truck in under an hour, cash paid on the spot, and the agreed price held. It took an old Chrysler 300 nobody else would move and a car with a title problem. One seller was left waiting for a no-show, which stands out against the rest.

Broken Wheel Auto Parts-Wrecking

4.4 Cleveland

This parts counter near Bellaire Road on the west side sells mostly used parts, but locals have scrapped old cars and pickups here for years. A few sellers mentioned a quick pickup and fair pay for a junk truck. One owner of a running truck felt the offer was low, and most of the car-selling reviews are several years old.

Calling yards yourself

  • You answer the same questions on every call.
  • Every yard quotes a different price, and you have nothing to compare it with.
  • You find out when each yard can come only by asking each one.
  • A price quoted on the phone can drop once the truck is in your driveway.
  • Your number ends up on every yard's list, and the calls keep coming after you sell.
  • Some listings that look local are call centers that sell your details on.

You might be wondering

How fast can a Cleveland buyer pick up my car?

Every offer says the earliest time that buyer can come, and your offers page shows the fastest pickup near the top, so the quickest Cleveland buyers are easy to spot. If you tell us you need it gone today, the list starts with the soonest pickups. You book the buyer's time or a later one they have open, up to a week ahead, so you can pick the time that suits you.

Can I call the Cleveland buyers listed here?

We don't list their phone numbers. Enter your ZIP and the buyers who cover it send offers to your offers page, so you compare prices side by side instead of calling yard after yard. Once you pick one, calls go through our number, so neither side's number is handed out.

What do I need to sell a junk car in Ohio?

Ohio law says you must take your plates off the car as soon as it is sold, so remove them before the truck leaves. Your signature on the back of an Ohio title has to be notarized before you hand the title to the buyer. If your Ohio title is electronic, you sign page 1 of form BMV 3770 instead, and that signature must be notarized too. If you lost your Ohio title, you can get a duplicate at any county Clerk of Courts title office. Bring a photo ID and the title fee. If you can't find the title, say so on the form and message buyers before you choose, because some can still take the car.

How does BeaterBoss work?

Tell us about your car, your ZIP code and when you need it gone. Screened local junk car buyers send cash offers, and each one says the earliest time that buyer can pick up. Your offers page shows the top offer and the fastest pickup up front, and you pick the buyer you want.

What do Top, Fastest and Best of both mean?

Top is the biggest offer on your car. Fastest is the buyer who can pick it up soonest. Best of both marks an offer that is among the three biggest and the three soonest at once. They only point things out, so you can still choose any offer you like.

Do I need photos, the mileage or the VIN?

No, but the more you add, the more accurate your offers. Buyers price a car from what they can see, so photos of the front, the back, the dashboard showing the mileage (with the engine running, if it runs), the inside, any damage and the VIN plate let them offer a price they can stand by when they arrive. The VIN is on the dashboard by the windshield, or on the driver's door frame. Please don't add a photo of the title: it shows your address.

Is it free for sellers?

Yes. It costs you nothing to get offers or sell. Buyers pay us a fee only when they win your car, and it is on top of their offer, never taken out of it.

Will I get a lot of phone calls?

No. Offers arrive on your own offers page and we text you when they do. Buyers never get your phone number, not even the one you choose: calls go through our number.

Can I sell my car without a title?

Often, yes. Many buyers accept cars without a title if you can show ID and proof of ownership. Rules vary by state, and the offer may be lower.

What if the buyer lowers the price at pickup?

You can say no. The offer you accepted is the price. Tell us on your offers page and we will step in.

Why isn't a Cleveland business I found on Google listed?

It may not have met our bar, which is a 4.0 or better Google rating, usually from at least 10 reviews, and signs that the business actually buys vehicles. We also leave out call centers and listings named after search keywords.

Why are some buyers shown first?

Buyers who make offers through BeaterBoss are shown first, because you can get their price here without a phone call. They pay us a fee only when you pick them and they pick up the car; you never pay anything. Everyone else is shown in a different order on every visit, so no one is stuck at the top or the bottom.
