How selling a junk car in Seattle–Tacoma works

  1. Describe the car online

Fill in a short form with the year, make and model, whether it runs, the title and when you need it gone. Add photos, the mileage and the VIN if you can, because buyers who can see the car offer a price they can stand by. There is no phone call to make and nobody to wait on hold for.

  2. Let the buyers battle

Buyers around Seattle–Tacoma who take cars from your ZIP send offers to your own offers page, each with the earliest time they can pick up. Your page shows the three who can come soonest beside the three who will pay the most, each offer shows the buyer's name and town, and you can message any of them through our site.

  3. Pick your winner and get paid

Choose the offer that suits you, whether that is the most cash, the soonest pickup or one near the top of both, and book that buyer's time or a later one they have open. The buyer tows the car for free and pays you the full amount when they collect it.

NORSPEC Dismantling Inc

4.9 Tukwila

Tukwila's NORSPEC is mainly a parts dismantler known for Tesla and late-model pieces, but a handful of sellers had scrap cars hauled off by its crew. One was a junk car sold through Peddle that it collected right on time. Reviews about buying cars are few, so think of this as a parts shop that also takes scrap.

Yank-A-Part

4.2 Poulsbo

Over on the Kitsap side in Poulsbo, this self-serve parts yard also buys junkers. A recent seller said it beat the online offers, and another finished the sale with the title in about five minutes. It will tow, but sellers who drove the car in got more. Most reviews are about pulling parts, not selling cars.

Cash For Cars-Free Junk Cars Removal

4.9 Renton

This Renton tow-away buyer is known for speed. Sellers had trucks and dead cars hauled off within an hour of setting it up, including cars stuck in a muddy backyard that other services refused. Payment was cash at pickup, and a photo of the title was enough to start. Only a small sample of its reviews has any detail, so there is less to go on here.

Junkthatcar

5.0 Federal Way

Paid in cash at the curb is the steady story with this small South King County buyer. One seller got crisp hundred-dollar bills for a broken van, another a Sunday pickup for a 2007 Civic, and several said the price agreed on the phone held at the truck. Almost every review is from the last two years.

Eastside Junk Cars (We Buy Cars)

5.0 Bellevue

A Bellevue outfit that answers fast and usually tows the same day, often within a couple of hours. Past sellers got rid of dead Subarus, a flooded truck and even eleven junkers on an inherited lot, and several got more than rival quotes. It also helped people who had lost a title or had out-of-state paperwork. Nearly all the reviews are from the last year.

Grand Forks Auto Wrecking

4.1 Puyallup

Mostly a small Puyallup parts yard, but it also buys junk cars and pays by weight. Past sellers had cars picked up and paid in cash, and one had three junkers removed for the best price locally. Most of those buying reviews are several years old, and one older complaint says the payout came in under the quote after a long wait.

A1 Hauling

4.2 Bothell

A Bothell junk car hauler that often comes the same day, sometimes within an hour, and has driven out past Monroe on Highway 2 for a car nobody else would fetch. Most sellers traded the title for cash on the spot. The record is not spotless: one seller said a parts-only car was fixed and driven again, and another waited a month for a pickup.

One man runs this north Seattle tow-away, and sellers keep describing the same thing: he showed up when promised, walked them through the title and bill of sale, and paid on the spot. Cars came from condo driveways, tow lots and a hoarder's yard next door. He has been doing it for about ten years, and a few people say he gets busy.

Calling yards yourself

  • You answer the same questions on every call.
  • Every yard quotes a different price, and you have nothing to compare it with.
  • You find out when each yard can come only by asking each one.
  • A price quoted on the phone can drop once the truck is in your driveway.
  • Your number ends up on every yard's list, and the calls keep coming after you sell.
  • Some listings that look local are call centers that sell your details on.

You might be wondering

How fast can a Seattle–Tacoma buyer pick up my car?

Every offer says the earliest time that buyer can come, and your offers page shows the fastest pickup near the top, so the quickest Seattle–Tacoma buyers are easy to spot. If you tell us you need it gone today, the list starts with the soonest pickups. You book the buyer's time or a later one they have open, up to a week ahead, so you can pick the time that suits you.

Can I call the Seattle–Tacoma buyers listed here?

We don't list their phone numbers. Enter your ZIP and the buyers who cover it send offers to your offers page, so you compare prices side by side instead of calling yard after yard. Once you pick one, calls go through our number, so neither side's number is handed out.

What do I need to sell a junk car in Washington?

Take your plates off before the car leaves. The buyer can't use them, but you can move them to another car of the same kind or turn them in. Sign the title to release your interest. A signature on the title itself does not need a notary. File a Report of Sale with the Washington DOL within 5 days, even if the car goes to a wrecking yard. You can file it online. You and the buyer both sign a bill of sale, unless the sale price and date are written on the title. Lost your title? The Affidavit of Loss/Release of Interest can stand in for it, but it must be notarized or signed in front of a vehicle licensing agent. If you can't find the title, say so on the form and message buyers before you choose, because some can still take the car.

How does BeaterBoss work?

Tell us about your car, your ZIP code and when you need it gone. Screened local junk car buyers send cash offers, and each one says the earliest time that buyer can pick up. Your offers page shows the top offer and the fastest pickup up front, and you pick the buyer you want.

What do Top, Fastest and Best of both mean?

Top is the biggest offer on your car. Fastest is the buyer who can pick it up soonest. Best of both marks an offer that is among the three biggest and the three soonest at once. They only point things out, so you can still choose any offer you like.

Do I need photos, the mileage or the VIN?

No, but the more you add, the more accurate your offers. Buyers price a car from what they can see, so photos of the front, the back, the dashboard showing the mileage (with the engine running, if it runs), the inside, any damage and the VIN plate let them offer a price they can stand by when they arrive. The VIN is on the dashboard by the windshield, or on the driver's door frame. Please don't add a photo of the title: it shows your address.

Is it free for sellers?

Yes. It costs you nothing to get offers or sell. Buyers pay us a fee only when they win your car, and it is on top of their offer, never taken out of it.

Will I get a lot of phone calls?

No. Offers arrive on your own offers page and we text you when they do. Buyers never get your phone number, not even the one you choose: calls go through our number.

Can I sell my car without a title?

Often, yes. Many buyers accept cars without a title if you can show ID and proof of ownership. Rules vary by state, and the offer may be lower.

What if the buyer lowers the price at pickup?

You can say no. The offer you accepted is the price. Tell us on your offers page and we will step in.

Why isn't a Seattle–Tacoma business I found on Google listed?

It may not have met our bar, which is a 4.0 or better Google rating, usually from at least 10 reviews, and signs that the business actually buys vehicles. We also leave out call centers and listings named after search keywords.

Why are some buyers shown first?

Buyers who make offers through BeaterBoss are shown first, because you can get their price here without a phone call. They pay us a fee only when you pick them and they pick up the car; you never pay anything. Everyone else is shown in a different order on every visit, so no one is stuck at the top or the bottom.
